Accessing Audio Description on Peacock

The following post was made on the ADP's Audio Description Discussion List on May 11, 2024, by Sherry Molengraft. It pertains to turning on AD on an iPhone or iPad.

Turning audio description on your phone settings will not turn on audio description in any of the streaming apps, including Peacock. You must first turn your phones screen rotation lock off. This needs to be done in order for the AD settings to show up. I don’t know why. Then start a movie or TV show on Peacock. Wait until the show is on, the AD settings will not show up during commercials. It must also be a show that has audio description or the settings for AD won’t show up either. Remember as the video is playing, the screen will be facing landscape mode. So turn your phone sideways when swiping down to the various settings. Tap on “show video controls”. Passed down closed captioning, making sure that is off, and tap on A D English. Then you can hide video controls and finish watching the show. One good thing about this whole process Is that after you have got AD  on it will always stay on. The next time you watch a show that has audio description. if you start a movie or show and the audio description does not play then that means that particular program does not have audio description. Remembering that none of the commercials have audio description. You may also go back and turn  your lock rotation screen back on and AD will stay on  once you have that setting turned on in the Peacock app
