AD For Education

How To Access AD

There is room for growth in the provision of audio description for educational and informational videos. While many federal and state agencies are working to improve the accessibility of their filmed content, both public and private academic institutions at every grade level demonstrate a broad range of investment in accessible materials.

The most comprehensive catalog of educational videos with audio description, captions, and American Sign Language can be found at the Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP). The site also contains resources and training on how to create audio description for educational materials.

Dicapta helps create and provides accessible media. Users can even record their own audio description with the free All4Access tool.

CAST encompasses more than audio description alone and provides guidelines on Universal Design for Learning.

What To Do When AD Isn’t Available

When educational material does not provide audio description or descriptive transcripts, it’s an opportunity for advocacy. Consult the ADP directory of people and organizations that create audio description and set up a meeting with the content creator and AD professionals.
