Welcome to the only complete listing of USA audio described commercial videos!
This is a USA-only listing, and Canadians sometimes find DVDs listed here do not have description in Canada.

PointerJump to DVD Descriptions and Ordering Information or go to our full listing of DVDs from all years.

2011 continued the uptrend of a dramatic increase in the number of DVDs released with audio description.  As a reminder, Universal did not commit to description on RENTAL versions (until July 2012).

Below you will find a list of all the described DVDs released in the USA in 2011 of primarily first-run movies.  (A few special releases, not first-run movies, are also included.)  Most of them are available via Amazon, and we urge you to make your purchase via a click-through from this website to help support the cost of the website.

Please pay attention to notes with cautions (in this color) regarding which versions of the DVDs may or may not have description.  The older ones rarely say anything about description on the covers, while most of the new ones do (typically under Languages as "DVS" or "English Audio Description Track").  Rental versions are sometimes the "Director's Cut," which typically does not include description, nor typically do unrated versions.  Be sure to order the theatrical version, and be sure to order via Amazon, not their Marketplace sellers.  Generally, the Blu-ray versions of DVDs listed here since the fall of 2009 also have description.

Battle: Los Angeles, starring Aaron Eckhart and Michelle Rodriguez (2011) Rated PG-13

Battle: Los Angeles is a war movie first, science fiction second. It's got it all: a burned-out retiring sergeant who gets drawn back in because, dammit, the Marines need him; the guy who's about to get married; the guy who's still a virgin; the guy suffering from shell shock and who just might crack; the newbie officer with a lot of book learning who you just know is going to freeze under pressure and have to be shepherded by that burned-out sergeant, who learned his lessons on the battlefield ... and so much more. There's not a moment in this movie you haven't seen before--the only twist is that the enemy is alien, so whatever shred of concern you might have for raining heavy artillery on a fellow human being can be cheerfully cast aside... -- Bret Fetzer

DVD Cover
Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, starring Martin Lawrence and Brandon T. Jackson (2011) Rated PG-13

Martin Lawrence returns as Master of Disguise ... FBI agent Malcolm Turner in the second sequel to 2000's blockbuster Big Momma's House. Here, the agent must throw on the padding to pose as the housemother at an exclusive Female School of the Arts, in an attempt to ferret out a murderous Russian Mobster. The twist? This time he's forced to bring his stepson (Tropic Thunder's Brandon T. Jackson) along with him. The presence of Jackson makes this genially mellow sequel feel like a low-impact passing of the torch, with Lawrence (who also executive produced) seemingly content to let his younger costar handle most of the cross-dressing comedic heavy lifting (ballet lessons, slumber parties, etc.)... --Andrew Wright

Soul Surfer, starring AnnaSophia Robb and Dennis Quaid (2011) Rated PG

The life of Bethany Hamilton, a promising amateur Hawaiian surfer who overcame a crippling shark attack at age 13 to succeed on the pro circuit, would likely make for a compelling, inspirational cinematic experience even if it consisted of a voice-over recounting her story on a blank screen. The actual film may stay firmly within the standard safe sports underdog movie guidelines ... but Hamilton's incredible strength and spirit still manage to shine through, aided by a terrifically appealing lead performance by AnnaSophia Robb... She does her real-life inspiration proud, even if the film surrounding her sometimes feels overly scrubbed. -- Andrew Wright
