MoPix
This page supplies additional information on MoPix,
as supplied by WGBH Media Access' Director of Technology in October
2012.
The MoPix
product is compatible with the digital cinema environment. Specifically:
- Rear Window Captioning (RWC) displays are compatible with all
digital cinema hardware installed in the U.S. Some digital cinema
servers (DCS) support a direct connection to RWC displays, and
require no additional hardware interface. Other DCS manufacturers
support RWC via a standard Auxiliary Content Server (ACS) interface
box. The ACS interface is part of the digital cinema standard
developed at SMPTE for the industry. ACS interfaces are designed to
read timeline and caption content from a server and broadcast
synchronized captions to any supported closed captioning systems.
- Descriptive Video Service (DVS). DVS, sometimes known as Audio
Description (AD) or Video Description (VD) or Video Narration (VN)
or Visually Impaired (VI) content, is compatible with all digital
cinema hardware installed in the U.S. This ancillary audio track is
included in most first/run movies, and can be routed to any standard
DVS rendering hardware, typically infrared or wireless emitters
broadcasting to headsets.
