Hello:
While we are at home during these difficult
circumstances, it is a good time to take advantage of what all the
streaming services have to offer in terms of programming and audio
description. Below are a few recommendations. I have tried to pick
selections from all of the major streaming services. I also tried to
pick new and recent titles.
Netflix
1.
Unorthodox – This is a 4 part show about a young woman who fights for
her independence, she is part of the Jewish Orthodox community and
leaves it while struggling to find her identity. This show is extremely
well done. They use 2 voice narrators to do the audio description as
parts of the show are also in Yiddish.
2.
Money Heist – This is
just a fun show about a gang of international thieves that try to rob
the Spanish mint. It is fun to root for the bad guys sometimes.
[After you watch it, and not before, check out the documentary
on how it was produced and how it became a phenomenon:
Money Heist: The Phenomenon. - Fred Brack]
3. [It wasn't
available with AD when Carl wrote this, but I'm sure he would have added
Breaking Bad. - Fred Brack]
Disney Plus
1.
Onward – For those of you who have
children or those of us who have not grown up, you can’t go wrong with
Pixar’s latest title. This is a story about brothers who are elves who
go on an adventure with their Dad.
2.
Toy Story 4 - All I need to
say is “to infinity and beyond”.
HULU
Little
Fires Everywhere- This show stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry
Washington. This is based on the best seller of the same name and puts
one’s perceptions about class, race, and gender on its head.
CBS All Access
Picard – For those who are Trekkies,
this stars Patrick Steward reprising his role as Captain Jean Luc
Picard. Engage!
iTunes and Prime Video
Star
Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – You can now rent to play or purchase to own the
last installment in the Skywalker Saga . May the Force Be With You!
Prime Video for Prime Members
A Quiet Place - If
you want to see a movie with virtually no dialogue and all audio
description, then check out this film where if you talk and make noise
you are in trouble. Good thing it is not reality because I would be a
dead man.
Apple TV+
Visible: Out on Television – A documentary
on the civil rights movement for the gay community. We can all learn
from each other.
Enjoy!
