Art Spark TX Workshop on Dance Description

Art Spark Texas and Gravity Access Services are hosting a five-day workshop focused on developing a language for describing dance. It will be held in Austin, Texas, from April 10 to 14, as part of the internationally-acclaimed Fusebox Festival.

The workshop will be facilitated by Jess Curtis and Tiffany Taylor. An experienced choreographer, performer, and scholar, Jess has been creating dance with his company Gravity since 2000; he founded Gravity Access Services in 2018. Co-presenter Tiffany Taylor is a blind dancer, actor, singer, and expert in extra-visual access. Jess and Tiffany have worked together since 2017, devising accessible performances and offering access services to artists and venues across the US and Europe.

Workshop participants will learn, practice, and discuss best practices for the description of movement and dance. There will also be a chance to observe Jess and Tiffany as they preview and prepare AD for a performance by interdisciplinary tap dance artist Michael J. Love at the Fusebox Festival.
